I have ET fingers lmao body obs not ready as I am still here lol

Your body will only react to to things if it's ready, but what's the difference in trying this and getting a good fiddling from your oh lolol. Don't see a problem, i only have short fingers so doubt i could reach. ..

My midwife is going to ptoform an early sweep at 38 weeks for me, shes the one who suggested it as I have quite bad spd

I cant imagine doing it myself, but I have nothing against it if done correctly, I cant see how its any diff to a midwife doing it
I know many people who have taken castor oil, clary sage, evening primrose ect, some who have helped start there labours some who havent, I cant see the difference

Id much rather prefer to try and induce labour at home than be induced via drugs in hospital, but thats just my opinion

Personally id never do it and im really not sure I could reach! Im just desperate for these babies to stay in there until 36 weeks!!!!
I dont get the stress of trying to get baby to come before its ready then again ive never been over due and the girls were born at 36 weeks but still id much rather ask the MW first maybe get her to do it and if she said no then im sure there would be a good reason for it like it was too early etc!

good luck to u all the same and hope u have a nice easy labour xxx

Well slap me I have done it if i dont go into labour within 72 hours then my body aint ready lol all i have is pressure atm and braxton hickles xxx

i have had 7 sweeps over my first 3 children i still went far overdue with them none of the sweeps worked and that was when being done by people who are trained to do it... so i really wouldnt see the point in trying to do it myself!
would probably end up putting my back out too which wouldnt help lol

i too did my own sweep with help of dp, and went in to labour the next day, i was 39+2.
my midwife showed me and dp how to do it, i also had caster oil too, as advised by midwife as i had previous probs getting a big baby out and was told the sooner i deliver the better.
at the end of the day some say do it, some dont. we just inserted clean fingers deep, had a sweep around, i was already 2cm b this time but thats normal for a 3rd pregnancy anyway.
if u dont agree with it, dont do it, its up to people if they decide to do it or not, it all worked for me, the caster oil gave me this poos and then i was all clear for labour and i had a fast labour 0f 35 mins from start to finish in the birthing pool.
i told the hosp about it and they were fine with it,
i would do it again too. some people know when they need a helping hand, if iwas overdue my baby would have been too large and a c section would have been needed. so i decided to help myself and my baby and i did and it worked, she is now a healthy 22 mth old girl. still large, lol.

have always had late arrivals to be honest luv!...
no not prudish at all either!
i just dont see the fascination!
good luck with ya knitting needles....(cringe)

The same as the word is nothing not nothin, not quite sure on the correct way to spell made up words so I am sorry
. Everyone has had an opinion but you seem to have had a real downer on it all day, are you a tad prudish perhaps? (rhetorical I don't really care) Lets hope you go into labour nice and early and don't get fed up, would hate to encourage you to try some Castor oil or something else that's likely to do more harm than a bit of a prod. 6/9/08 20:32
Each to their own i say but i see nothing wrong with knowing your body - checking the cervix regular can allow women to know the best time for sex for conception, etc. I dont think its any different having a feel to see how dilated/soft cervix is. All a sweep is doing is stimulating the cervix to loosen the membranes - sex can do this too so whats the difference by stimulating it with a clean short nailed finger...
Good luck to anyone who is trying it i say

ive got nothin against induction, and PROFESSIONALLY QUALIFIED MEDICS doing membrane sweeps....
i just really dont see the need to d.i.y!
(oh and it was firking not fick)
6/9/08 19:10
Ficking around up there as you put it, is a good guide to how far you are progressing not only in preparation for labour but also through your monthly cycles. I don't think there is anything wrong with knowing your body in the slightest. As long as your hands are clean and you are light-handed you won't do any harm, think of the battering your cervix takes during sex!! Anyway before drugs etc were introduced how do you think babies were encouraged to come out? also how they would give you a rough idea of how far you were before ultrasound scans became available.
I've never had one but if it wasn't advisable to fick around up there why would someone have invented the cap, sponge or diaphragm and more recently the female condom?
