I had my tubes done, cut and burnt, at the same time as my caesaean section 4 months ago. A lot of doctors are funny about doing female sterilisation unless the circumstances fit iyswim. In my case this was my fifth pregnancy, I'm 33 and I had a really difficult pregnancy with thyroid problems as well as a seriously prolapsed disk which required surgery at 17 weeks pregnant.

No matter whether you have your tubes tied, clamped or cut and burnt, it's all classed as sterilisation just different forms of it.

I asked about sterilisation after my last kid and the doctor was not at all keen. He said off the record that if he sterilised me at my age (then 2 I would have very heavy periods and would end up with a total hysterectomy within 10 years. He said there was no medical evidence through studies to prove this, just his observations etc. After that I fell pregnant about 2 years later which I didnt want so i didnt keep. Now I'm having kid number 3. If I had had a sterilisation yes, I wouldnt have had an abortion and i wouldnt be pregnant with this one, but to be hones I have 2 already so this 3rd is one I could have easily lived without. If he had said yeah no probs you can have a sterilisation then I would have jumped at it. After this one hubby graciously volunteered to have the snip. I have heard this story before so to be honest I dont have much faith in that happening. I'm gonna go and get myself sorted, just to be sure. (I'm 34 now)

    Hi

I asked to be steralized at the age of 25, I had 3 children (tubes tied is very similar to sterilization, as that was the method yrs ago) I was refused because of my age, I am now 37, and so pleased the Doc refused me, we have a daughter of 3 and one on the way, I would look at something not quite to drastic hun.

    Good luck
