this is the most annoying thing that has ever happened.
i am so f*cked off now. i can't claim any of the benefits i need to claim ssmg, cause i'm only just 16, not working, and in education.
the thing is though, i could really do with that £500 atm.
i'm permanently skint and relying on other people to get stuff for my baby, which isn't good.
my mum's mate got us a pram 2nd hand, my boyfriend's mum has bought the cot and his cousin's wife has given us a load of stuff from when she had her baby.
i know i should be grateful for their help, and i am, but i am fed up of feeling like a charity case.
i need this grant, because i have no money, and my dad isn't exactly well off either, and i need to buy all sorts of stuff.
i need a breast pump (well, not need, but would like), i need bedding and stuff for baby, i need to decorate my room so it's suitable for me +baby, i need all sorts of stuff that i just can't afford at the moment, but surestart are too selfish to give me any money

I dont really understand how the surestart works, maybe you could go down to your connections and that would help as your still in education they may be able to help, there are people in far worse situations though, its great that your family are able to supprt you, maybe if you organise what it is you need and if they are able to help do it on a loan type thing where once you have finished at school and are able to get a job you will slowly pay it back, then you would feel more positive about accepting it and have what you need for now.

No, its just ridiculous to EXPECT the government to pay for her child. I fell pg at 16 & have to pay for my children.

when i had my eldest i was working, my now husband was at college, so i didnt have any money for much, mum bought me a moses basket, and i got a complete travel system for about £100 brand new (i didnt know about ebay then...now im wiser) and all my friends and family bought loads of stuff when she was born, you truely dont need masses of stuff but its very easy to get carried away with what you need and what you *think* you need. charity shops and ebay are your friend! oh, i got a cot and matress from ikea for £45!

you dont need half of that stuff until the baby is here...literally just a few bits of clothing, people will buy the baby outfits  when its born, you just need somewhere for it to sleep and a car seat/pushchair to get back from hospital. alot of stuff can be borrowed, then you casn buy the rest when the baby is here. hth

hI hon as soon as you have had the baby you can claim all the benifts in your own right,

however if your mum/dad gets tax credits for you then they may be able to claim it onyou behalf. good luck

p.s we still get given everything even though we can now afford to buy it ppl like to be helpful let them !

    enjoy

    that's good.
i was thinking i'd never be able to get it cause i can't get any benefits yet.
i mean, what benefits can i get when i'm 16, in education and living at home?
    like, none!
    it's completely infuriating.

hope you can get it after baby is born hunni when you will be recieving a high rate of child tax creds, you apply for that as soon as baby arrives dont worry about feeling like a charity case lol ,  im 23 now 3rd baby dus xmas day and all the stuff ive got i had to get from other people and charity shops etc.  as long as your baby has a happy mummy and a home you will be fine hun seems like you have nice family etc as they are helping you out, just think it wont be like that forever.x.x.

If you cant get it while your pregnant ( because of your age ? ) you will be able to get it as soon as your babys born because you will be on higher rate tax credits
