i had a GA with ds nearly 4yrs ago, i was induced and had a epidural but ds head got stuck and after a failed ventouse and forceps they prep'ed me for theather but as they put me on the bed and pulled me down the epidural came out and i was feeling where i shouldn't have done so had to have a GA as they needed to get the baby out. my experiance was good, although i did miss out on seeing my son born and dp didn't see it neither he was brought straight in to the room my dh was and no one saw him till i did but we didn't have family at the hospital. they would rather you stay awake in labour etc x

if u get put under a GA they wont let any relatives etc in theatre for safety reasons etc. u should only be out for a short amount of time but to be honest when u do come round u will be absolutely f**ked, drowsy and prob not strong enough to hold babe straight away. sorry i know its harsh but at least u will know what to expect.

i had a section 3 weeks ago. they couldnt get the spinal needle in so they decided on an epidural and all was going well but then for some unknown reason the epidural stopped working shortly after archie was delivered and they had to put me under a ga. my dh had to leave the theatre when they put me out. i was worried about not bonding as at that point i still hadnt seen baby as he had breathing problems, i got to see him around 2 and a half hours later and although i felt everyone had met him before me, i was just relieved we both come out of it ok! hes my ds6 and i can honestly say that my bonding with him had been no different to any of the others. the recovery has been difficult but no more than i expected, tbh the only problem i've got is a small numb patch at the base of my spine! ironic really considering the bloody epidural didnt work properly during the procedure but still leaves me with a patch of numbness!

hi, i can't answer your question as this is my first but the same thing is going through my head at the moment. i've also had some of my spine fused as well as having metal rods placed next to my spine and am waiting on an appointment with an anaesthetist to see what my options are when it comes to epidurals and whether i'll need a c-section or not and if so will it be GA or spinal block. do you have scoliosis by any chance?

I've already has one natural birth but im having problems with my liver and they have ruled out me having epidural due to my spine being fused from a previous operation. Im having a break down thinking everyone will see the baby before me and me losing that first bond.

I had a spinal block when I had emergency section last year. It was fine, just a bit surreal that they are pulling baby outta ya. Caleb wasn't responding well and was put in incubator and taken away but it was an hour or so before I saw him properly, just briefly until next morning. Dh was able to stay wit me throughout.
Although a friend had a section 8 weeks beforehand because her blood pressure was sky high. She had to be knocked out and dp wasn't allowed in theatre. Her mum and dad were waiting also, so the rest of the family found out what she had before she had woken up. I didn't like that. I think she was same, saw baby briefly when she came round and then again next morning.
Try to go for natural labour unless its a medical reason. I would never have a section again. You get all pain afterwards - walking is a nightmare. Never mind trying to get in and out of bed several times a night to do night feeds

I had a spinal with my section, so have no experience with GA. But i`m pretty sure that partners arent allowed in when you have GA, and that recovery takes longer (certainly on the day, as you have to come round before you go back on the ward, whereas with spinal they just keep you for 20 minutes or so to make sure youre not going to go funny on them lol).

Has anyone had to have a c-section under general anesthetic due to a medical problem? Just wonderd other than being out of it what the difference is? And your experiences?? Are partners allowed in? How long till you see baby etc?

I ended up with crash section under ga with dd 16 months ago. she was in a bit of a bad way they had to get her out quick, i felt very groggy when i came round and feel it affected the first couple of days with her, i didnt bond aswell a i thought i would with her straight away, its like i was knocked out while pregnant, came round, and there was a baby next to me, they could have handed me a baby elephant and i would have been none the wiser, i think that contributed to my pnd but my friend had one under ga and she was fine x
