im 4 days overdue at the mo and i went to the mw yesterday for a sweep and i had the same problem, she said my cervix was too high and that she couldnt get close to it.. does this mean i am nowhere near labour starting and that i havent even started dialating yet?

she had a fiddle about and something hurt when poking about... said i may bleed a tad, but i have had nothing since, no pains no nothing.

the mw was really busy so i didnt really get chance to ask her any questions.

im really confused

It pretty much works if you are about to go into labour anyway.

I had one at 9 days over, cervix was closed and high, no chance. Had another at 11 days over, had got to 1cm!  Baby arrived the next day.

I won't be bothering this time, he can come when he's ready.

I had a sweep when I was 4 days overdue with dd.  Had the sweep at about 3pm and mw said I was 3cm dilated and she expected me to have the baby that night.  Contractions started at 9pm that night and she was born 7 hours later - so it does work sometimes.

Ive had sweep last one was with 6th dd had sweep on a friday and show after show then nothing no contrats or brax. Wednesday came and started contracting on and offf had my dd 12.08am thurs

i had a sweep with my daughter now 11 mths was due on the fri ad a sweep that day no sign til mon nite and started avin pain at 10pm and she was born 4.21am tue morning she was my longest labour of all 4 was 2 cms wen i ad sweep

i had a sweep done when i was 4 days overdue.  that was the sunday morning.  i was 1 cm dilated and my cervix was soft.  i had him on the tuesday evening having being in active labour for 6 hours 37 mins!

I had a sweep done when I was 6days overdue with my ds 4yrs ago.

When the m/wife examined me I was 3cm dilated and 100% effaced, with no contractions.  She did the sweep mid morning Fri, by Friday evening I was having contractions on and off all day Fri night into SAt and SAt night into Sun, delivered ds on the sun lunchtime.

It really depends on how 'hospitable' your cervix is - m/wives words not mine lol ie if it is softening/ripening, effacing, dliating etc

i had a sweep done with my youngest and within 12 hours i was havin contractions every 2-3mins and baby was born 5hours after that

so good luck lol

I had a sweep done as the doc broke my waters "just to help the cervix along" even though I was 3cms when she did it and I swear NEVER AGAIN......... she hurt me more that the contractions did.  I'd leave thin gs to progress naturally next time or flatly refuse one.

had 3 and not a thing happend try eating 2 fresh pinapples it worked for my sister and i  will try it when im due.

had one last friday, midwife said am baked ripe and ready to go, still waiting!!!! getting induced tomoz morning. i think its a 50/50 thing.

I had a sweep last time when I was already 1cm dialated and still had to be induced a week later - so didnt work with me but I know someone who had a sweep and was in labour 4 hrs later - so I guess it is luck of the draw.

i had one at 41 weeks, my cervix was already about 2cm dilated though, that was early friday afternoon and i had dd that sunday morning x

My mw done one when i was about a week overdue and she told me i was 1cm. Unfortunately nothing happened and i ended up having to be induced not happy.

Saying this though i know someone who had a sweep to then go into labour the very next day so good luck you could be lucky !!!!!!

Hello - I was a week over due had a sweep at 9am went home had to go back to hospital at 3pm i was 3cm dilated and had my daughter at 5 55am the next morning so it worked for me! Im currently 17 weeks pregnant with my second

I had a sweep with my last pregnancy which was only last year so can remember it clearly.

I was 3 days over due with ds so mw decided to do a sweep, on doing it she found me to be 3 cm dilated but i was only having bh contractions, had been having them for about a week in fact, anyway i had a show that same day but nothing else then 2 days later another show and that afternoon gave birth, they say once youve had a sweep it can usually take a couple of days for anything to happen, sometimes nothing will come of it so next course of action would normally be induction if mw feels nit nessasary.

Did it work?!

Im due today and mw just been and done one on me. she said my cervix was closed and didnt seem that hopeful that it would work... Has anyone else had this with previous pregnancies and it worked?!
