i can remember packing my bag with my first and packing way too much stuff i didnt use half of it and was fed up of rumaging through a suitcase for a clean pair of knickers or a pair of scratch mitts!
my ds only weighed 5lb14oz so NOTHING in newborn fitted him my mum had to go and buy tiny baby clothes so all ive packed this time is 2 tiny baby suits and 2 newborn suits 2 bibs scratch mitts and nappies and cotton balls and a blanket.
I also found that taking minitures of stuff you will use like shampoo and showergel take up less room than bigger bottles!
Dont forget your sanitary towels and breast pads as i fogot these when ds was born!!!

id advise taking a couple bottles of water, and a straw. i kept 2 big bottle in the fridge ready for when i went to hospital. and betwee me and my partner we drunk both. except i didnt bring a straw and my partner was feeding me the water,LOL. and once yv deliverd get a visitor or someone to bring u in a sandwich or something cos i remember being STARVING straight after labour. and there was no bloody. meals left. i got given toast and tea straight after labour but i ate me and dp lot and was still hungry, lol!

Also any first time mums.... the poo that comes out of a newborn is not poo... it is like tar, it's black, it's sticky and it gets everywhere!!! Yes everywhere!!!!
Keep everything white for the hospital.... so you can get it all washed together.

One advice I can give is take plenty of vests & baby grows. I had no idea I was having a boy & when it came to changing nappies there (after 2 girls I was very inexperienced with little boys!!) he weed over the 3 suits I had & I called DH to bring more in.......

I suggets before you go into hos spend 10 mins putting things into a pile on the bed all the vests... sleep suits nappys etc etc and just have your bag packed before hand with just the essentials. If you have too much you end up digging around in a bag full of stuff just to look for a bib, or a pair of knickers.
Just pack 3 of everything... don't worry about a 'going home outfit', if baby is asleep when you wanna go home the last thing you will be doing is waking baby up to jazz them up. Only for baby to need feeding and changing again. There's another hour to add at least.
If you leave all the extra bits you might need out for your partner if you are in longer than intended he can bring the clean stuff and take the dirty stuff home.
And like a pp said make sure your chap know's how to use the washing mashine so you don't have a mountaing of baby stuff waiting for you what you get back.

Don't worry too much about taking extra stuff, as your dh can always bring it in to you. Also a top tip is to teach him to use the washing machine before you go - I didn't last time and I had loads to do when I got home. Now he knows how and he knows that I dont want loads of washing to do when I get back or there'll be trouble

Iv decided to pack small bag of stuff 2x nb vests 2x sleepsuits and little outfit for going home nappys 2 hats 2x scratch mits cottonwool balls etc. then a few bits for myself ie nighty, wash kit matpads, breastpads, clean undies nursing bra, and outfit to go home in. Then im going to pack a separate bag with more vests, sleepsuits, nappies etc more knickers, pjs etc for me which ill leave at home so dh can bring in if needed and take dirty stuff home. then dont have to drag loads into hospital. thought this would be a clever idea.

Thanks for all your advice.... i suppose its better to have too much than too little. Well the bag is packed so if i've missed anything there's always shops close by.

It depends on your stay, I was in three days first time and got throught soooooooo much stuff.
My partner took it home at the end of each day.....but didn't wash anything!!!
With baby number 2 I was in and out within 7 hours, and went home in the clothes I went in wearing. After my daughter was fed and dressed, she slept until we got her home, so I hardly touched anything other that my toiletries to have a shower.

I would put the newborn up to 9lbs in you bag. even if she is small it wont matter if they are a bit big anyway. I would also put in 4 of each babygrow, vest, bibs, socks, hats and scratch mits. 1x going home outfit
Where i live you can be discharged 6hrs after delievery but sometimes you may have to stay in abit longer if everything didnt go to plan ect so its best to have some ectra clothes just incase that happens so that why i suggest 4 of each.

Hi, I remember packing my hospial bag with my first baby when I was 28wks LOL I think it is wishful thinking! I packed enough for a 2 week stay!!! I think 4 vests, 4 babygros is cool, and 1 pack of nappies. I had everything in newborn size, and my dd was born weighing 10lb8oz and I am not joking when I say NOTHING fitted her. I was gutted. My OH had to run into town and grab a few packs of 0-3 month size things... needless to say, only lasted her 3 weeks and then she needed 3-6mth!

Hey ladies.... I'm 32+1 & decided to start packing my hospital bag incase little Milli decides to make an early arrival (wishful thinking, ha ha)
When i was sorting thru my stuff i got abit confused over what baby clothes to take in as some newborn sizes are upto 9lb & some upto 13lb then what about if she's smaller than any of these & needs tiny baby clothing... Also how many vests & baby grows will i need???
I'm getting more & more excited now , i'm due on the 18th Dec & hope i dont go over as i would love to have my baby here for xmas...
xx

Hey ladies. thanks for all your help...
I think i'm eventually sorted after swapping & changing about 10 times, lol...
I'm so excited now & i get more excited everytime i see my bags...
Was at midwife yesterday & she told me baby has started to engage, i know you can still go over but its all exciting.
