Why is a gynachologist looking at your baby? Do you mean the peadeatritian?
I had to have the pead come and see my son as he had a 'cpntact rash' and hight temp and was a little poorly... but my daughter saw no doc and no pead, I went home 3 1/2 hours after having her.
Your hospital must be pretty strict with births, but that can be a good thing. Nothing wrong with a few extra days help in hospital if you need it.
I couldn't wait to leave though.

I asked my midwife this at my last appointment and she said if everthing is okay you can go home 2 hours after having baby, even if it is your first!
For me this was good as its what I wanted to hear, but for some people to go home that soon would be very daunting.

Wow nik emma and jayden.... that's a long time to have to stay in.... I bet you were not impressed. I was gutted to have to stay in and me and my baby had complications... ut if both are healthy then three days is a long time.
I think 24 hours is justified.

I had Amy at 8pm and was out by 8pm the following night. She was my first and I was induced as I had Strep B, broken waters and no contractions, so they said she had to stay in 24 hours for monitoriing.
I was lucky though as it was a cold October night and they told me they don't let any babies leave after 8pm as it is too cold!

hey i was induced at 40+13 at 6pm on sunday evening by 8pm i was contracting every 3-5 mins by 11.30 was 4cms and taken down to delivery maddison arrived at 3.02am back to ward at 5am and home by 5pm..would have been earlier but maddie was diagnosed with hip displacia so had to stay and have a harness fitted!! so with my first i was in for like 12 hours after birth and she was my first! if you dont want to stay overnight just make sure you tell them as soon as you get back on the ward else they wont bother xxx -

If it is your first baby the hospital prefer for you to stay in for at least 24 hours, but you don't have to stay in at all, but obviously if you or baby have any problems afterwards, the hospital is the best place to be.
In second, or further births they will let you out as soon as they can. The midwives can now discharge you too so you don't even have to wait around for the doctor. They do like to make sure that baby has done a wee first, ut I took my lo home before she had done a wee. I had to go back the next day for an injection so they checked her over again then. And she had loads of cuddles off the staff.

I was induced with dd1 at 42 weeks, I had my daughter on the Thursday afternoon 1pm, and was kept overnight as I had to have an anaesthetic follow up due to my epidural, I was 'released' on the Friday about 3pm. They dont' like to keep you in for long these days as they are short on beds, once baby is feeding well and providing you dont need a follow up they'll send you home asap.
