Just to add to my previous post, when i was in labour i found it helped to go on my knees and walk around a lot, the midwife said this will of helped baby to turn, and as soon as she did turn i felt an immediate release of the pain in my back (although it did get stronger on my stomach!)

Hey i saw the midwife the day before my due date and my baby wasn't engaged, and apparentley slightly back to back, later on that night i went into labour when baby engaged and turned into the correct position and was born on her due date the day after, with a completley natural birth in the birthing pool

Your body and baby will sort things out when their ready, good luck x

HI our dd (my 1st) didnt engage and my waters didnt break till I was well into labour with her. I was told by the mw that I would probably go over my due date but she was born bang on time! She was back to back tho and turned just before being born. It does make it a longer labour and I would definately recommend an epidural, I found it so easy after it!

Neither of mine engaged at all until labour - bumps never "dropped" at all.

DD was 16 days late, DS 12.

This time, I am not even beginning to expect the baby until 40 +10! lol.

I've been trying to walk the baby out and today as I was walking round the park I was getting sharp stabbing pains down below kind of right at the front all the way round the park. Very painfull at times. My bump still looks high but I'm hoping this was the head at least engaging a bit. I know I have a week to go yet but the thought of going overdue is driving me mad.

even if your babys head is engaged it could still take longer than someones whos hasn't been engaged most mums first time don't become engaged untill in labour i would just think no matter what in 3weeks time you'll have your baby easy saying that i was fed up by 36weeks it will happen though relax while you can still xxxxxxxxx

i had my baby 8 weeks ago, my first. i was admitted into hospital at 39+2 weeks due to high blood pressure. he was not engaged. was told i could go home at 39+3 but they changed their mind. the registrar did an internal at 9pm to check me and my cervix was tightly closed and baby was not engaged. was really annoyed lol. that night at 3.30 my waters broke. i went in to labour. had a 6.5 hour labour from start to finish and found out during delivery that he was bc to bc and face up. so a very fast labour for first baby, bc to bc baby, going frm no sign of baby to baby in 6.5 hours. lol

    hth xx

Thanks for all the replies it makes me feel a little better to know that things can still happen even if baby is not engaged yet. It's keeping busy to take my mind off of it that is the problem. I was convinced that the baby would be early as I am so big so I have everything ready. I planned to go for lots of lunches and walks with the other women in my antenatal group but they all seem to be dropping early. Also not helping.

hun i went to see my midwife on a thursday afternoon wen i was 39 wks and she told me that my dd was not engaged and was showing no sign of wanting out, she also told me that from my size and feeling my stomach that my dd was going o be v big.

that night at 11.30 i stood up to go to bed , my waters broke and my dd was born 3 1/2 hrs later only weighing 7lb 7.... it was all water ( i was so relieved lol)

i was desperate at the time to be told the end was near but my mw insisted that she would most likely be overdue but guess my dd had other ideas

dont worry bubs can put in an appearence anytime with or without warning lol

Hi Jody, when i had my dd 2 years ago she never engaged until during labour. I went into labour a 38+6 with no warning, not engaged, waters didn't break and no show so just because you don't get any of these it doesn't necessarily mean you will go overdue, you could really go into labour anytime. My dd was back to back which is why she didn't engage and i think the posterior part on your notes also refers to your baby being back to back. My labour was long and not nice but she was my first so got nothing to compare her to so maybe that was a normal labour for me and had nothing to do with her being back to back? Try not to worry too much and just keep in mind options for pain relief if baby is back to back. My mw never told me dd was back to back so i said no pain relief on birth plan and the hospital took that as gospel and for 21 hours refused me an epidural! If i'd known she was b2b i would have definiteley put epidural in my birth plan which is what i've done this time. Hope it happens for you soon xx

I am 39 weeks today and my baby isn't engaged yet. I am so fed up as the end is so far out of sight. Has anyone else had this with their first baby and gone on to deliver on time? I'm worried I will go realy far over and then end up with c section anyway. My baby is on the large side and I have an anterior placenta which can cause back to back babies and make it hard for them to engage. I think my baby is in the Left Occiput Posterior position if that means anything to anyone.

My GP and midwife have been really unhelpfull and just say they will review at 41 wks. Any advice would really be welcome as I am driving myself mad.

    Jody x
