Hi I have been told to take iron supplement as my iron levels are just above 10 I used Spatone before I became pregnant as I was low on iron and they worked a treat no constipation just taken in a glass of orange juice as this helps the body absorb the iron content better and you can barely even taste it is in there.
Hope this helps
32 weeks and starting to get a bit impatient now.

You can get pregnancy supplements from chemist, which contain not only iron but other vital nutrients required during pregnancy. I got some from asda, I asked the pharmacist's advice of what to take and they gave me one a day supplements which I took until I had to have iron tablets from the GP, which cause me loads of side effects.

I got spatone samples when I went to the babyshow and I must say they are gentler on the tummy. I added mine to orange juice and did not suffer with constipation or black poo. You should be able to buy those, I'm sure.

Hiya hun, i have never had to take iron tabs, but if your iron levels are low then you should go to your gp and he can decide whether you need them. If you do he will prescribe to you. However if you feel you need them you could go to your local pharmacy and talk to them and they can advise you on which are best as I think there are different dosages. Also you could just try eating more iron filled foods like red meat (if your not a vege) and green veg. I have had friends that have been on them and they said the most unpleasant things about them are constipation and your number two's go black lol. Hope this helps, and take care x -

There are some liquid ones which don't have the constipation side-effect. Perhaps you could talk to the pharmacist.
The last time I went into Boots to buy iron tabs, they wouldn't sell it to me without a 'script from my Doc so he prescribed me with Pregaday which leaves me constipated.

Hi There,
After i had my ds I was quite aneamic. I took a prescribed iron tablet and the constipation it gave me was horrendous! I took Spatone, you can get it from boots. It's sachets of naturally high in iron water, drink with orange juice which helps its absorbtion. It def worked for me and didn't bung me up at all! it's ofte on 3 for 2 ofder in boots and has about 30 sachets per box, so bout a months supply!
Hope this helps xxx
