Hello, I never did a baby shower with my other kids but for this one I thought to have one because we moved and It was an excuse to see everybody before the baby is born(I'm due in January).

We did the invitations home-made, we used colour paper, cut it in a shape of a sleepsuit and printed the details. Because we wanted to avoid unwanted presents we asked for gift vouchers from stores like Boots and believe me It's been worth it. We were expecting around 25 people, but because the distance only 16 showed up, but we prepared some snacks, starters and a nice home-made cake, everybody was happy we took pictures and men were allowed(otherwise my husband won't be very happy sorrounded by women!!) and to avoid conversations just about babies(for a change). the party lasted for 2 hrs, everybody had a great time and we collected over 200 pounds on gift vouchers for boots so helped us for nappies and other items needed (you can also use the gift vouchers towards medicines or creams so you can have more selection).

Even some of the people who didn't make it gave us later a gift voucher.

Also if you're in a tight budget there is a website where people gives free babies items

    Hi,

I too am not really keen on a baby shower, but I've had lots of people saying they want to.  I intend to have an open house at my parents during the day with nibbles and tea, but I'll prob ask for vouchers.

Do you think thats impersonal? I'd rather get the stuff myself expecially as its our first.

    Hiya

Don't worry, I wasn't going to have one either until I was forced to. Don't worry too much about it, December and January sales are coming up and that is when I will be getting all my things.

I am sure you will get gifts once the baby is born. As nice as baby showers are, people end up getting things you don't need anyway.

If it is really bothering you, why not get a handful of people that you are close to and have a small gathering 'baby shower', with snacks etc?

    Good luck!
