I rub liquid Ambesol onto my 9month old's gums - and have been using it since he was 5 months old.  It's FAB - I highly recommend.  You can get it over the counter from Boots.  They also sell a gel version (like Bonjella) but I didn't find that as good.  With the liquid you can reapply it really often and my lo really likes the taste - so it's easy peasy.  It's about £3 I think.

Hi there we use nelsons teething granules (homeopathic) which will stay around gums better, but pricey at about £4.50 for 24 powder sachets...asda sell them. Also use bonjela both seem to work think it depends how bad pain is, midwife advised pain relief on top so using calprofen at night.Although she's wide awake now d'oh!!
