dp just been in 2 ours as knows some of the top 1s who work there (gainsborough) they told him they will b open for a few mths yet as their building is owned outright so they r allowed to keep trading, hence y they all looked quite happy, and things will be reviewed in jan/feb time if a bought out has not gone thru by then. apparently the 1s that have rented buildings will be gone by the end of the week. they think only about 50 will b left open over xmas, altho this was all hush hush.

I know mums from school who work there and I also know a lady who has worked there since she left school and worked her way up through the ranks, she's in her late 40's now so it's all she's known all her working life. I do feel really sad as if Woolies go where I live there won't be much else left tbh! I am going down tomorrow more to have a chat with those I know to see if I can gauge if they are going to shut tomorrow night or not. I don't think anyone knows really what is going on. I did ring a little while ago and they said they had no plans to close tomorrow.

what happen to kwik save was the buildings that were rented closed down straight away the stores that owed the building  stayed open till the building was sold so i guess they will do the same.

according to the recent news they staff are still getting paid and there r wages 4 them n they will not close b4 xmas

i think if they r trying to find a buyer like reported they have more chance in doing so whilst the stores remain open.

What was said on the news last night was that Woolworths only had wage funds put away for tomorrow (friday) and then there was no more money to pay the staff. So obviously staff would not work for free and hence the store would close.

I'm not really sure what's going on.

i just went inot mine n was no bargains, other then the stuff which has been on offer for the last few wks, they were even setting up the ends with the new promotions, so dont think they will close offer night.

on the news it said would open as normal today n staff would be paid tomorrow as normal, i know last night a few on here were getting confused thinking it meant that was it, but it then said they would still be open into nxt yr.

Well ive just phoned to see if i will be getting my order or not and they did answer the phone but all the computer systems are down so he couldnt check if i will be getting it and told me to call back in a couple of hours by which time he will probably have been made redundant and i will probably never know.It sounded very manic in the phonein room.

all those people losing their jobs right before Christmas, they must be so worried about how they will cope financially.  I really feel for them.  I know we will all be getting some bargains as a result of the closing down sale (hopefully) but it is still sad because of the way we will be getting these deals and with the credit crunch there is no guarantee these people will be able to find another job quickly.

my hubby listen to the radio at work and thatss what they have just said they have gone down this morn and the staff wages stop 2 morrow . so i cant see the staff working for nothing so i doubt they will be going to work.

they keep saying they will be open till after christmas, they have confirmed administrators are trying to salvage what they can. Id imagine theyll stay open till after christmas as they will prob recoup some of their losses but i wouldnt see them getting much new stock in probs just dvds cds and their own brand stuff!

I think the reason the CDs/DVDs/Games etc is still there is because the entertainment stuff is co-owned by 2Entertain, so they can continue selling.
