Had it done on wednesday eventually! But I have been told to use condoms for 6 weeks!!
Anybody know why?
I understand that several days is advised because of the risk of infection.
I was told 7 days by my doctor, and 6 weeks by the doc at the family planning clinic. A bit of a difference!

I can't see that my gp would prescribe valium as I have to drive there.
Apparently at the family planning clinic I will be filled full of pain numbing gel/liquid, and I will take 2 neurofen this time.

Hi hun, I had the mirena coil fitted last year and thought I would have a problem as I could not relax but my doctor prescribed a couple of valium tablets to be taken shortly before I was due to have it fitted. Apparantly they are a muscle relaxant as well as a tranquiliser and they worked for me, it was a bit uncomfortable while it was done and then for a couple of days after but I have forgotten its there now. Thanks anyway.
The doc said that my cervix should have been loosly open and expected about 2cm to get the measurng device in, but she couldn't even do that.
She used 4 speculums and was having a good go for about 20 mins.
Problem is I am totally put off as I have stomack cramps just from that yesterday, so I am now totally aware of what is yet to come in a few weeks.
Pain is not a problem, I just don't think I want to go through that again if it will result in it not being fitted again.

i had my coil put in last year and cant remember them saying anything about my cervix being anything other than there

if theyre going to put it in at the place you're being sent to i would assume its not really much of a problem and just make sure you ask questions when you go in case it is something you need to know more about.
sorry am no help hun x

Anyone?

My cervix is too thick. So I have got to go to snow hill in wolverhamtpon, which I think is a family planning clinic.
The gp said that the staff there are more experienced and they have better equipment.
Am a bit worried though. I wasn't on my period so the gp said that was the main reason.
Anyone else had problems when getting it fitted?

So it's not just me who has been told 6 weeks then.
I spoke to the nurse whi assisted with the first fitting, and she said 7 days is all you should need to use them for.
I think maybe some people like to make sure all will be ok before you go back for the check up in 6 weeks. Or maybe it is a cop out so they don;t have to deal with the problems, and will see you gp after that.
